Preachers for the Fifth Sunday in Lent, being the start of Passiontide

Despite what it says on the Cathedral’s own website (www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk ), the preachers for the Fifth Sunday in Lent are as follows:

Eucharist            Rev Professor Christopher Rowland, Dean Ireland Professor of the Exegesis

of Holy Scripture University of Oxford, and Canon Theologian

of Liverpool Cathedral (hope the sermon isn’t as long!)

Music sung by the boy Choristers and Lay Clerks is:

Litany: Tallis

Pärt – Berliner Messe

Motet: Christus factus est – Bruckner

Choral Evensong        Very Rev Justin Welby, Dean of Liverpool

Music sung by the boy Choristers and Lay Clerks is:

 Introit: Morning glory – Rose

 Responses: Plainsong

Canticles: Tomkins Fauxbourdons

Anthem: Miserere mei – Allegri

Yes ….THAT Miserere Mei complete with top C’s etc. If I’m being picky (surely not?), could have had that as the Psalm setting, and had something sublime by Tallis as an Anthem….but then given that the Dean managed to preach for just six seconds short of fifteen minutes last week at Evensong, AND managed to use the word Hermeneutical for the first time in the history of sermons at Liverpool Cathedral, AND get away with it….maybe it’s just as well, or we might still be there in time for Morning Prayer on Monday!
