Appointemnt of a New Bishop of Warrington

Hot off the press….. the Bishop has today announced the appointment of the next Bishop of Warrington, who will succeed Rt Revd David Jennings who is retiring in October.

The new Bishop is Venerable Richard Blackburn. Richard is currently Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham a post he has held since 1999. He will be consecrated at a special service at York Minster on November 3rd.

According to an interview on the diocesan website http://www.liverpool.anglican.org/index.php?p=785 the new Bishop’s cv may appear to be somewhat familiar: St John’s College, University of Durham, worked in the City as a banker with Nat West, then Cambridge (Westcott House), likes rowing and walking….  Remind you of anyone? Maybe the C of E is cloning senior clergy these days, perhaps there is a secret Evangelist in the City, recruiting high flying City money men with promises of draughty vicarages and tiny stipends? I think we should be told.
