Notes from the pews…. just a few you might have missed

Evensong  Sunday March 22nd

Reminder to all, that this is actually a service of Choral Vespers and will be taking place at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Evening Prayer will be said at the Cathedral at 3p.m. followedby BCP Holy Communion at 4p.m. as usual.

The choirs of both Cathedrals will be in action, and the music is …well wonderfully indulgent for Lent! I mean what’s not to like?

Rose  Responses

Rachmaninov Bogoroditse Devo,

Psalm 13

Tavener Collegium Regale (Mag only)

Gorecki Totus tuus

Philips Ave regina coelorum

As far as I’m aware this is not a significant Marian date, but Hey, who’s complaining! Well ok I can think of one or two of Clerical persuasion with “issues” over the soundness of the theology of the Gorecki, but that’s their loss. The rest of us can just sit back and allow the spirituality of beautiful music to enhance our worship. There are some advantages to theological ignorance! Actually I have just realised that it is the Feast of the Annunciation on March 25th, so as the Sunday before…..Anyway enjoy!

Evensong  Friday March 27th

At the time of writing this service is still taking place as usual, and in the chancel. However, if you’re intending to attend, please be aware that there is a  memorial service for local radio DJ Phil Easton, which starts at 4 p.m. in the Cathedral. Expereince tells us that media memorial services tend to over run, so it might be an idea to allow extra time for parking and getting in, also the possibility for last minute changes.  Even if the memorial does run to schedule, there will be a great deal of car and pedestrian traffic in and around Queen’s walk.

If there is any further info nearer the time, I will post it here and send a message to the members of the FB Group.
